Dance Styles

Tap Dance

Tap dance is achieved by using the sounds of metal plates on the bottom of each shoe (at the heels & toes), hitting the floor as a percussive instrument. Tap shoes are available to rent for just $3.
FUNDAMENTALS
Dancers will be eased into the terminology and execution of all the single sound techniques, then start to combine sounds to make new steps. All dancers in this class are in the same boat, so no need to feel self-conscious. We’ll offer lots of tips to make you feel comfortable and successful!  Along the way, you’ll also learn:
• correct body positioning & where to shift your weight
• how to loosen your ankles to achieve the best sounds
• ways to relate tap steps to walking for ease of understanding
• the differences between rhythm tap vs. Broadway tap
• how to count music and hear the phrasing
