Adaptive Dance

★ Dancing has a broad range of health benefits. It has been demonstrated to be clinically effective at improving body image, self-esteem, attentiveness, and communication skills. It can also reduce stress, fears and anxieties, as well as lessen feelings of isolation, body tension, chronic pain, and depression, while enhancing the functioning of the body’s circulatory and respiratory systems!
★ Dance can be a great activity for people with a variety of cognitive/intellectual disorders, disabilities, or injuries. ALL abilities are welcome! Tap Fever Studios has experience working with the disabled community and is excited to provide dance opportunities for all. While our Adaptive Dance classes usually have groups of dancers from organizations that we partner with, they are also open to the public, so come dance with us!

Adaptive Jazz Dance
The jazz class incorporates other dance styles such as hip-hop and contemporary, but we primarily focus on the snappy, sassy, theatrical, high-energy style of jazz. For the KIDS version of this classes, we also incorporate fun dance games! Parents and/or volunteers are encouraged to join the kids for this fun-filled 45 minutes.
Adaptive Tap Dance
This is an innovative, seated tap dance class, ideal for dancers with limited mobility. Gloves are outfitted with metal taps (like on tap shoes). When you strike the wooden board on your lap, great music is made! This footloose and fancy free dance class is carried out while sitting in a chair. Whimsical dance moves are done to fun music, and are easy to follow.

Watching Class

During all classes, families may wait under the pergola, or on the west patio. There are windows on the west patio, where families can peek into class. Having extra bodies in the dance room (during class) can be distracting for the dancers, so we ask that non-participants remain outside. Everyone in the room must be participating in class, and must have a registration form on file.

Class Fees

The Adaptive Dance classes are FREE, or highly discounted! We rely on donations and grants to cover and/or supplement the costs of these classes. You may DONATE any time.

Spotlight Donors

These Spotlight donors have generously supported Tap Fever with gifts of $1500 or more, which will be used towards our adaptive dance programs for dancers with disabilities.

Learn more about INVISIBLE DISABILITIES

Invisible Disabilities

♥ Not all disabilities are easily recognizable at a glance. An unseen (or invisible, hidden, or non-apparent disability) refers to hundreds of conditions including mental illness, learning disabilities, diabetes, epilepsy or other seizure disorders, multiple sclerosis, cardiovascular disease, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), cancer, arthritis and many more. Very often, individuals show no outward sign of their chronic illness. In fact, they often have to cope with others saying things like, “But you don’t look sick!” It is estimated that 10% of people in the U.S. have a medical condition which could be considered a type of invisible disability.

Learn more about AUTISM FACTS & STATISTICS
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex developmental disability; signs typically appear during early childhood and affect a person’s ability to communicate, and interact with others. The following information has been provided by the Autism Society, last updated: August 26, 2015.
PREVALENCE
• About 1 percent of the world population has autism spectrum disorder.

• Autism is the fastest-growing developmental disability.
• Prevalence has increased by 6-15 percent each year from 2002 to 2010.

FINANCIAL COSTS
• Autism services cost U.S. citizens $236-262 billion annually.
• A majority of costs in the U.S. are in adult services – $175-196 billion, compared to $61-66 billion for children.
• Cost of lifelong care can be reduced by 2/3 with early diagnosis and intervention.
• The U.S. cost of autism over the lifespan is about $2.4 million for a person with an intellectual disability, or $1.4 million for a person without intellectual disability.

EDUCATION
